The Chicago Sky have a star-studded roster featuring Angel Reese, Courtney Vandersloot, and Kamilla Cardoso, but big names don’t guarantee wins. They’ve found that out the hard way this season, as they were just 7-13 heading into Monday’s bout with the Minnesota Lynx.  Chicago did enter the game on a two-game winning streak, beating the Dallas Wings 87-76 on Wednesday and the Lynx 87-81 on Saturday. Bench guard Rebecca Allen led the team with 27 points (9-13 FG, 5-7 3 PT) on Wednesday, and starting guard Ariel Atkins topped the squad with 27 points (12-21 FG, 1-2 3 PT) on Saturday.  However, the latter player left Monday’s game with an injury, via the team’s social media.

“Chicago Sky Injury Update: Ariel Atkins (leg) will not return to tonight’s game against Minnesota,” the team announced.  Atkins entered the game leading the Sky with 14.5 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting (35.9 percent 3 PT). The veteran also led with 1.9 steals.  Atkins finished with two points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3 PT), three assists, and one steal in 15 minutes on Monday.

Atkins spent her previous seven seasons with the Washington Mystics, who traded her to Chicago in February for the 2025 No. 3 overall draft pick, a 2027 second-rounder, and a 2027 first-round pick swap. The Mystics used the 2025 pick on Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron, who received All-Star honors as a rookie this season.  Atkins won the 2019 WNBA title with Washington.
