Jalen Hurts reveals the sacrifice he made for his rival CeeDee Lamb, Dallas Cowboys star

During a YouTube video posted by the Eagles, Jalen Hurts told an anecdote from his early days as a player in which he had to make a sacrifice for CeeDee Lamb, the Dallas Cowboys’ star wide receiver. The story has caught the attention of many fans and even NFL players.  Before getting to the heart of the matter, it is important to remember that in 2024, Hurts had an explosive campaign with 18 touchdown passes and 14 rushing touchdowns (32 in total), surpassing Mahomes’ numbers (28 touchdowns: 26 passing and two rushing). However, those statistics were key for him to conquer the Super Bowl against the Chiefs.

Hurts’ connection with the number 1 has a backstory and, surprisingly, a Cowboys twist. Hurts began his NFL career with the number 2 that he wore as a rookie. It turns out he made a significant sacrifice, giving up his preferred number for none other than CeeDee Lamb.  The quarterback explained the story behind his number 1. “I grew up wearing ‘2’ because of my brother,” he said. But things changed when he transferred to Oklahoma. There, CeeDee Lamb already wore the ‘2’. Hurts decided not to pressure him, so he wore the ‘1’ at Oklahoma. And that choice became a symbol: “it’s like it had a different energy,” he said.
