WNBA Commissioner’s Honest Message About Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Rivalry Turns Heads

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert knows that she has two massive superstars in her league that weren’t present one season ago.  We’re talking, of course, about rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.  These two icons have been major needle movers for not only the WNBA, but for the entire sport of women’s basketball.

And the most impressive part is that, considering that their first WNBA season is not even halfway over, there’s still so much more growth Clark and Reese can inspire for the sport.  Engelbert addressed the rivalry between her two 22-year-old sensations while speaking on NBC Thursday morning.

“Caitlin and Angel, everybody’s talking about that rivalry,” Engelbert said, per Vanshay Murdock.  “Why do people watch [the WNBA]?” Engelbert continued. “They watch because there’s household names they know, there’s rivalries and there’s games of consequence going on.  “This game matters. And this is why they’re watching,” Engelbert concluded.

It’s good to see that the WNBA’s top dog is able to recognize a great opportunity when she sees one.  And it will be exciting to see how Engelbert can leverage Clark and Reese’s rivalry into more growth for women’s basketball in the years to come.
