It was not only Shohei Ohtani who sparked discussion during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series Game 7 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions for the second straight year, taking down the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in a Game 7 showdown that will certainly go down as a classic. L.A. trailed 3-0 in the third inning after Bo Bichette launched a three-run home run off Shohei Ohtani. However, the Dodgers clawed their way back, with the Blue Jays leading only 4-3 entering the ninth inning.
Miguel Rojas tied the game in the top of the ninth inning to force extra innings, and Will Smith gave the Dodgers the first — and final — lead of the contest with a solo shot in the 11th inning. With the 4-3 series win, the Dodgers became the first team in Major League Baseball to capture the World Series in back-to-back years since the New York Yankees won three straight from 1998 to 2000.

While much of the focus was on the athletes on the field, however, another non-player grabbed the attention of MLB fans: Ohtani’s wife, Mamiko Tanaka. Before the game, Freddie Freeman’s wife, Chelsea Freeman, posted a couple of photos on Instagram showing the wives of several Dodgers players. In the very first photo, Mrs. Freeman was seen posing with Mookie Betts’ wife, Brianna Betts, and Tanaka.
“My girls,” Freeman wrote in the caption.

Many were quick to notice Tanaka and shared their reactions in the comments section of the post. “Ohtanis wife, rare sighting,” a commenter wrote. Another one said, “Mama Ohtani.” As supporters also shared the photo on X, many couldn’t help but praise Tanaka for her overall look and outfit. “One vote for Mamiko!” a fan added. A poster shared, “Mamiko-san is looking all shiny and radiant.” “It’s okay because Mamiko is here,” an X user stated. A sixth supporter noted, “Long hair suits Mamiko so well!”
Tanaka, who was a professional basketball player in Japan, married Ohtani in 2024. Not a lot was known about her at the time, and she and the Dodgers star have remained largely private about their personal lives. The two welcomed their first child, a daughter, in April 2025, according to People. However, Tanaka has been supportive of Ohtani’s career, with fans often seeing her attend Dodgers games and cheer for her husband.
