Travis Kelce sends simple 2-word message over NFL retirement as he nears end at Kansas City Chiefs

TRAVIS KELCE gave a retirement hint when asked whether he had played his last game with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 36, is at a crossroads in his career this season.  His form has declined this campaign, and the Ohio native has publicly been weighing up the idea of retiring before the start of next season.

But that prospect throws up some interesting implications for his iconic partnership with Mahomes.  This year the Chiefs have failed to make the NFL play-offs for the first time since 2014.

That leaves the team with just three games left to play this season.  And on top of that, the Chiefs’ star man Mahomes recently suffered a season-ending ACL injury against the Chargers, which means that he won’t be available to play in any of them.

Should Kelce retire at the end of the year, it means we have already seen the dynamic duo’s last game together.  When asked by the press on Friday whether that idea had crossed his mind, Kelce replied: “Oh man, that’s crazy.

“I’d rather keep the focus of the media and everything on this team, right now.  “All the conversations I have with the team and everything moving forward will be with them.”

Kelce is reportedly leaning towards calling it quits on his footballing career at the end of the year.  But it is clear that the weight of such a huge decision is weighing on the beloved big man.

Kelce continued: “It’s a unique time in my life. Unfortunately, I’ve got three games left, and I know when the season ends this year.  “Typically when we go into it, we don’t know when it’s gonna end, and that’s the beauty of it.

“I’m trying to make sure everybody knows that I’m focused on trying to win football games, these last three games.”  He will have to live without Mahomes in those games due to the brutal injury he picked up against the Los Angeles Chargers last week.

Kelce said on his podcast New Heights: “Obviously, we lost our quarterback, man. Patty Mahomes, our guy, our brother, our fearless leader, our face of the franchise, to an ACL.  “It’s never easy seeing your guys go down. We had a bunch of guys get hurt this past game, and we fought, man.”

Kelce will have a busy slate in the near future regardless of whether he is playing.  He is engaged to pop superstar Taylor Swift, with the two set to get married in June next year.

But it would be sad to see such a dominant partnership end in such disappointing circumstances, fizzling out rather than going out with a bang.
