Randi Mahomes is a mom of three — to three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes, of course, along with his brother Jackson and half-sister Mia — but her kids aren’t the only ones who call her “Mama”!  The ESPYs red carpet was filled with the biggest names in the world of sports – and that often includes their parents. Patrick Mahomes’ mother Randi was on hand at the award show on his behalf and while discussing the closeness of the Chiefs players, she revealed the special name that Travis Kelce calls her.

After telling PEOPLE on the ESPY Awards red carpet that she ran into Patrick’s BFF and tight end Travis Kelce the evening prior at dinner, Randi says that usually when Kelce sees her, he comes up to hug her and says “Mama Mahomes, Mama Mahomes.”   Randi says that Kelce calls her that “every time” she runs into the Chiefs star. “And he is such a ball of energy.”   Randi adds that when she saw Kelce in Los Angeles, “I was like, ‘no wonder Patrick recommended this restaurant.’ ”

She also tells PEOPLE about the close-knit bond the Kansas City Chiefs have on and off the field. “It feels almost like a little family, you know. I love that,” Randi says. “I love meeting Chiefs players because you don’t always get to meet them all,” she adds, even as mom to the star QB.

On Thursday, July 11, Patrick Mahomes, 28, was named the Best Athlete in Men’s Sports at the 2024 ESPYs, his second consecutive year earning the award show’s biggest honor.  While the NFL quarterback wasn’t present to accept the honor at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, Calif., Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid proudly spoke on his behalf.  “Listen, I am honored to be here, to pick up this award for Patrick,” the coach, 66, began. “I’ve been around this kid for two years now, and to watch him grow as a football player, as a teammate, as a leader has been phenomenal.”
