The Kansas City Chiefs’ emergency alarms blared during practice, as it’s far too early to be dealing with injuries with the season just around the corner.

Justin Watson left Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the team stunned after suffering what looks like a serious injury, leaving him on the ground for several minutes before he was forced to leave practice as trainers were examining Watson’s left foot.

During a routine pass catch, Justin Watson suffered an injury that had fans and teammates holding their breath. According to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, Watson was evaluated by trainers on the field before being carted off to the locker room. The severity of his injury remains uncertain, but his potential absence could significantly impact the Chiefs’ lineup leaving some hope in the air as the wide reciever was able to walk to the sideline, according to The Athletic.

A glimmer of hope

There might be a silver lining after all: Watson was seen sitting in the front seat of the cart, rather than lying in the back. This could be a sign that his injury isn’t as severe as initially feared, offering a glimmer of hope for a quicker recovery.

With Watson sidelined, the door could swing open for other receivers to shine on the first team. Xavier Worthy is still out due to illness, so the competition for those coveted reps intensifies. Kadarius Toney, Mecole Hardman, Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross, and Nikko Remigio all stand to gain from increased practice time, contending to make their mark as the season approaches.

If Watson can’t make a quick return, it would ignite a showdown among the Chiefs’ backup receivers, each one eager to step up and advance their careers. However, there’s hope that Watson’s condition isn’t serious, allowing him to get back to training soon.
