Darius Slay apologized to Philadelphia Eagles fans after he gave up the game-winning touchdown in a 22-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday.  Slay was defending Drake London at the goal line but got beat, leaving the Falcons pass-catcher wide open for what proved to be the game-winning score.

After the game, Slay approached London with a smile and said, “Good route.” Not long after, Slay posted an apology on social media.  “That’s on me Philly!! I owe yall one. DAMN!!!!!” Slay wrote on X.

Some Eagles fans were not having it.

“ARE YOU F—–G KIDDING ME???” one reply read. “YOU’RE ALL SMILES DAPPING HIM UP AFTER THE GAME ‘GOOD ROUTE MAN’ AND THIS IS WHAT YOU SAY????”

“Preciate it, but don’t dap the dude after he toast you pls,” another fan added.

Others felt there was blame to go around. The Eagles had the game in hand late but didn’t convert a crucial third down late, leaving the door open for Kirk Cousins and the Falcons.

“Nah, that wasn’t pretty but its not on you. How about running the ball on 3rd down under 2 min,” one fan said. “Take 45s off the clock and they hadn’t stopped the run all night. Or kick the FG on the second drive inside the 10yd line. We not even here discussing it.”

Other fans were a little more optimistic about what’s ahead. The Eagles are 1-1 after the loss.  “People freaking out like it’s the playoffs! It’s game 2! Plenty of time to make adjustments and get better,” a fan said.  Slay is a six-time Pro Bowler and has 28 career interceptions. He had five tackles in the loss to the Falcons.
