Did Jalen Hurts get injured? Why Eagles star was replaced by Kenny Pickett in win vs. Giants
The Philadelphia Eagles went on the road to take on the New York Giants in Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season. The focal point of the game was running back Saquon Barkley’s return to New York, but when the dust settled, it was all about how easily Philly was about to handle their NFC East division opponents.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts struggled at times in the game and was slow to get going. He only finished with 114 passing yards, but he had two of his infamous tush-push touchdowns. Midway through the fourth quarter, though, Hurts was spotted on the sidelines, and backup quarterback Kenny Pickett came into the game for the Eagles.
Here are the latest updates on Jalen Hurts and why he wasn’t on the field when the game ended.
Did Jalen Hurts get injured?
Hurts took some big hits from the Giants stout defense, but did not get hurt. Even though New York now has a 2-5 record, their defense is legit. They just don’t have much of an offense. Hurts was sacked four times for a combined 36 yards. He also had seven carries including one at the goal line where he got popped by a New York defender.
Still, outside of the typical bumps and bruises that come from how Hurts plays the game, he didn’t suffer any big injury in the Week 7 victory. Pickett came into the game because Philly was up 28-3 in the fourth quarter.
Jalen Hurts stats today
.14 pass attempts
.10 pass completions
.141 passing yards
.1 touchdown
.0 interceptions
.7 carries
.22 rushing yards
.2 rushing touchdowns
Despite how good the defense is for New York, Philadelphia was able to work its way down the field four times in the game. The first drive ended with Barkley getting his revenge score on a three-yard rushing touchdown. Hurts had a beautiful pass later in the second quarter, hitting A.J. Brown for a 41-yard touchdown.

Eagles QB depth chart
1 Jalen Hurts
2 Kenny Pickett
3 Tanner McKee
Hurts is the starting quarterback whenever he is healthy. Pickett is playing in his first season in an Eagles uniform. The University of Pittsburgh product spent the first two years of his career with the Steelers. After a falling out with the team, mainly due to his repeated poor results, Pickett was traded along with a fourth round pick to the Eagles ahead of the 2024 season for a 2024 third round pick and two 2025 seventh round picks. McKee spent his collegiate career playing for the Stanford Cardinal from 2020-2022. He was drafted by the Eagles with a sixth round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
