It’s here. Another dynasty in the making. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady won 6 Super Bowls in 20 years with the Patriots. Now, compare that to Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes at the Chiefs. The QB arrived there in 2017, so in the last 7 seasons, he has already won 3 trophies. And this year too, they are on a very bullish run to another Super Bowl. The veteran coach has plenty of way up his arsenal to inspire his players. We saw an example again on Friday.

While addressing the media on January 23, Andy Reid gave a final message to his team ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Bills. His meaningful advice was, “Just be themselves, go play.” These 5 words have a vast meaning. The caliber of the Chiefs players is top-notch. In the O-line, they have players like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Isiah Pacheco. Their defense line is also star-studded with George Karlaftis and Chris Jones.

Patrick Mahomes is not only a good player, he is a great observer of the game as well. He recognizes the potential of his rivals by looking at their game. That’s why when Josh Allen & co. defeated them in the week 11 game, he told the Bills’ QB, “We’ll see you again, baby.” And here we are. But this time, the odds heavily favor Andy Reid’s team.

First, they have a winning history, with victories in all 3 playoff games, both have played since Mahomes came to the Chiefs. Second, the game is at the Chiefs base, Arrowhead Stadium. So, the Bills shouldn’t expect the same show of support they got at the Highmark Stadium in the week 11 matchup. Third, everyone at the Chiefs is healthy, while the Bills are checking injuries to CB Christian Benford (concussion) and their safety Taylor Rapp is out of the game. Hence, the challenges are there for the visitors.

However, as the entire Chiefs team was preparing in silence, something came up that might shake them. It might deviate the QB’s focus ahead of the critical game.

Andy Reid’s QB battles a familiar personal problem

Patrick Mahomes‘s grandfather, Randy Martin, was in the hospital a few days ago but came back. On Friday, his mother, Randi Mahomes, shared an IG story, declaring he was hospitalized again. The caption of her story read, “My dad is in hospice and I’m lost for words.” She also uploaded their photo and wrote ‘Colossians 3:20‘. What’s that?

According to the website Bible Gateway, it reads, “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.” That’s right. A devout believer, her family is very close to her. Most of her time goes around her father, who has been battling poor health for quite some time now.

A few days ago, during his hospitalization, Randi Mahomes regularly updated the fans. Prayer warriors united to support them, praying for his health. And everyone was happy when he came back home. But it has happened again. He is quite old, and his health remains a challenge.  That’s a crisis no one prepares for. Can Andy Reid’s signal caller get over it and lead them to victory? Chiefdom believes he can.
