A TalkTV presenter was rushed to hospital after collapsing at his GP practice.  TalkTV host Peter Cardwell has revealed he was taken to hospital in an ambulance on Monday (January 20) and and had to undergo several tests. He took to X, formerly Twitter, to update viewers on his condition and thank them for his support.

Peter wrote: “Thanks to everyone in touch about my health. Bit of drama yesterday at the GP where I collapsed and was brought to AandE in an ambulance; many tests, drips etc. Docs told me to rest for a week, so I’m hopefully back on air on Weds 29th. NHS and @TalkTV colleagues have been great.”

Journalist Peter, who can be seen presenting on TalkTV on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, was inundated with well wishes from followers. One wrote: “Hope you didn’t have to wait too long in AandE. Get well soon.” To which Peter replied: “Thanks — they were excellent. I was very impressed.”

Another follower joked: “Crikey – get well soon, Peter! I know you said you’d stopped drinking recently, do the doctors think that’s the probable cause?” Peter quipped: “Haha — that was six years ago, so I don’t think the two are connected!”  “Wish you well Peter – must have been a scary time x,” a third added. The journalist later reassured viewers that he was “on the mend” and planned on returning to TV in a week in another update.

He posted a photo of himself laying on his sofa with his black cat. “Thanks for all the good wishes,” Peter wrote. “On the sofa with my best buddy Jack and on the mend, I think. Plan to be back on @TalkTV in a week,” he said.  One supportive follower wrote: “Weekends are not the same ! Get well soon meow”. Another added: “Hi Peter trust that you are feeling a wee bit better. Another week? err How will we cope Lots on Talk TV to keep you going lol See ye soon x”.

It comes after Peter revealed he would be taking a break from TV after contracting “flu-like symptoms”. He wrote: “I haven’t felt properly well physically since Christmas Day and been battling through in a very Silly Man/”l’m Not Ill” sort of way. Today a wall of flu-like symptoms have downed me. I’m not broadcasting again until at least Tuesday, to rest and recover. (Mental health all good).”

Peter joined TalkTV in 2020 as a presenter and the station’s Chief Political Commentator He .previously worked as a special adviser to several government ministers.  He now covers politics at Westminster for Talk TV as well as appearing on the channel in regular slots on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. He also occasionally presents on Times Radio.
