Patrick Mahomes faces traumatic family situation as he prepares for Super Bowl LIX
As Patrick Mahomes prepares for Super Bowl 59, where the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles, he is also dealing with a deeply personal and heartbreaking situation. His grandfather, Randy, is currently in hospice care, and the Mahomes family has been open about their emotions during this difficult time.
Mahomes’ mother, Randi Mahomes, shared an emotional message on social media, expressing her heartbreak over her father’s condition. “My dad is in hospice & I’m lost for words,” she wrote, along with a Bible verse. Her post quickly gained attention from NFL fans and well-wishers, with supporters from both Chiefs and Eagles camps offering prayers and words of comfort.
Earlier this year, Randi had also reached out to the public for support. “Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy. He is in the hospital and is not well… his name is Randy,” she said. Despite the magnitude of Sunday’s game, Mahomes’ focus and emotions will be tested as he balances his commitment to his team with the weight of his family’s struggles.
Fans show Support
Football fans from across the league, including Chiefs and Eagles supporters, have rallied behind Mahomes during this challenging time. “Terrible. Can’t imagine the stress of wanting to be there for his grandfather and his team,” a fan wrote.

Another added: “While I’m obviously rooting for the other team, prayers, respect, and love to 15… May he play healthy and inspired… I couldn’t even imagine.” This year has been filled with highs and lows for the Chiefs quarterback. Just last month, he and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, welcomed their third child, daughter Golden Raye Mahomes, on January 12.
Despite the personal hardship, Mahomes is preparing for one of the biggest moments of his career, as he aims for a fourth Super Bowl victory at just 29 years old. Fox will air the Super Bowl 59 matchup between the Chiefs and Eagles, with kickoff scheduled for 18:30 ET on Sunday, February 9.
