Myles Garrett

Myles Garrett’s frustration with the Cleveland Browns has reportedly reached a breaking point. The star defensive end has demanded a trade, but the franchise is refusing to entertain the idea. In response, Garrett has allegedly threatened to sit out games next season if his request is ignored, putting the Browns in a difficult position.  The 29-year-old defensive star has made it clear that he wants to compete for a championship, something that appears unlikely in Cleveland.

The Browns finished at the bottom of the AFC North with a 3-14 record last season, and with quarterback Deshaun Watson dealing with another Achilles injury, the team is once again stuck in a rebuilding phase.  Now, as Garrett’s standoff with ownership intensifies, speculation is growing about where he could land if the Browns cave to his demands.

Garrett’s Standoff With Browns Ownership

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Garrett requested a meeting with Browns owner Jimmy Haslam to discuss his future, but the team has refused to consider trade talks. In response, Garrett has allegedly issued a firm ultimatum-if he isn’t traded, he’s prepared to miss games in the upcoming season.

Garrett is one of the league’s most dominant defensive players, finishing last season with 14 sacks despite the Browns’ struggles. He has consistently been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and has earned recognition as one of the best pass rushers in the NFL.

However, the Browns, who are reluctant to part with their best player, still have him under contract for two more seasons on a five-year, $125 million extension signed in 2020.
A Market Full of Suitors for Garrett

If Cleveland ultimately agrees to trade Garrett, there will be no shortage of suitors lining up for his services. Several teams are looking to strengthen their defensive front, and a player of Garrett’s caliber doesn’t become available often. Contenders such as the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders have glaring needs on their defensive lines, making them potential landing spots.

Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons, two teams on the rise, could also be in the mix.  But the most intriguing possibility is the Philadelphia Eagles, where general manager Howie Roseman is reportedly eager to make a move. According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, Roseman is willing to part with key assets to bring Garrett to Philadelphia, seeing him as a potential missing piece for their already formidable defense.

What’s Next for Garrett and the Browns?

As the trade standoff continues, the Browns are left with a tough decision. If they hold onto Garrett despite his dissatisfaction, they risk alienating their star player and creating unnecessary distractions for a team already struggling.

On the other hand, trading him could bring in valuable draft picks and players to accelerate their rebuilding process.  With Cleveland expected to draft a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the team’s future is uncertain.  Whether Garrett remains in Cleveland or finds a new home with a contender will likely be one of the biggest offseason storylines in the NFL.
