Nick Sirianni Handed Big Boost to Aid Jalen Hurts as Eagles Give up on Dallas Goedert with Trade Decision

There’s something about that post-championship glow — parades, confetti, and the sweet taste of victory. But in the NFL, that glow doesn’t last long. Just ask Jalen Hurts. One minute, he’s hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, and the next, he’s watching key teammates face uncertain futures. It’s the tough side of winning — the moment when front offices start reshuffling pieces, deciding who stays and who goes. And right now, one of Hurts’ trusted targets may soon be on the outside looking in.
Can we say that the Eagles‘ victory confetti has settled down. And now it’s time for the team to make some roster moves? The offseason is where champions are made or broken. If you pick the right warriors, you have a greater shot at winning (in this case retaining) the Lombardi. So now, after Jalen Hurts and Co. have done their part, it’s time for GM Howie Roseman to work his magic.
Philly has already made some offseason moves, as they re-signed LB Zack Baun. But with the free agency deadline upon us, things will heat up this week. Word is that an offensive player has also been wanting an extension. TE Dallas Goedert‘s name keeps popping up in the headlines. So what’s the latest from Philadelphia?
First things first, the 28-year-old Baun was on a one-year contract, lifting his first Lombardi in his debut season with the team. Philly gave him a three-year extension worth $51 million; Baun will pocket $36 million in guaranteed money. With Baun locking down a deal, another player who was on a one-year contract wants to continue with the Birds. And that is Mekhi Becton. Popular account ML Football reports, “Free agent guard Mekhi Becton would like to return to the #Eagles, sources familiar with his situation tell.” And for that, the former Jets player is even ready to accept a salary discount.

That’s maybe what Tyreek Hill should have done if he wanted to remain part of the winning team. But hey, maybe he will get the Dolphins a Lombardi in 2025. Well, back to Mekhi, the Eagles football guard expects the team to pay him fairly for his contributions. He has won a Super Bowl, so naturally, his market value will be high. As per reports, while Becton may be flexible on the numbers, he expects Philly to consider his contributions when they negotiate a deal. So, would Nick Sirianni and the front office retain Mekhi, or would he have to look for a new home? Now, as for Dallas Goedert, the Eagles are… not so sure about the TE’s future with the team.
Is Dallas Goedert’s time with the Eagles coming to an end?
TE Dallas Goedert has been a key weapon for Philly for seven seasons now. The South Dakota State alum is entering the final year of his current four-year, $57 million contract. This is the point where players demand extensions with the team. “Dallas Goedert, rightfully so, wants a new contract. I think that is safe to say no player wants to go into the final year of his deal without a new contract,” said Eliot Shorr-Parks, host of the Go Birds podcast.
But it looks like Philly, instead of offering an extension, is now considering trading its seven-year-tenured TE. Goedert recorded 42 receptions, racking up just 496 yards and two TDs to his name in the Super Bowl-winning season. This is the 30-year-old’s second-lowest season in his seven-year career.
NFL Insider Josina Anderson reported that the Eagles are trying to trade Goedert in exchange for a 4th-round draft pick. “Teams around the league know Dallas Goedert is available in trade, and the Eagles are willing to move him. Feels more and more like Goedert’s time with the Eagles is coming to an end,” noted Eliot.
The possible reason for Philly deciding to move on from Goedert is his struggle with injuries during the past few seasons. The TE has missed more than 15 games because of injuries since 2021. And he has also hit the 30 mark, which means Philly might not want to spend more on him. So instead of offering him an extension, they might look elsewhere. Sadly, the Super Bowl might have been the last game Dallas donned an Eagles uniform. Now it must be time for him to find a new home after spending seven years in Philadelphia. But if you have to leave, you might as well be happy it’s with a ring, eh?
