Angel Reese Posts 8-Word Message After Major News on Thursday

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has been competing in Unrivaled’s inaugural season as a member of Rose Basketball Club. In 14 regular season games, Reese averaged 13.1 points and 12.1 rebounds, continuing the double-double average she boasted as a WNBA rookie. The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year runner-up, Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds in 34 contests. Briefly setting the league’s single-season rebound record, Reese was overtaken by Las Vegas Aces star and unanimous MVP A’ja Wilson in that category.
A wrist injury cut Reese’s rookie season short, and while she appeared to re-injure it in Monday’s game, no update has been provided by her or the team (via Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune). As fans await word on the severity of Reese’s injury, the All-Unrivaled teams were announced on Thursday. Reese was named to the Second Team, joining Skylar Diggins-Smith and Rhyne Howard. “Congratulations to the Second Team All-Unrivaled,” the league wrote on X.

Following this major news, Reese posted an eight-word message on X that responded to a post from Rose head coach Nola Henry. “ANGEL REESE SECOND TEAM MY FAVORITE BARBIE WALKING DOUBLE DOUBLE, ULTIMATE COMPETITOR! SOOOO PROUD OF YOU A5,” Henry wrote.
Reese responded by writing, “Thank you for trusting & believing in me!”

Reese’s Unrivaled teammate Chelsea Gray was named to the First Team, as she averaged 21.3 points while hitting six game-winners. It was an impressive showing for Rose Basketball Club in Unrivaled’s first regular season, as Reese and Gray helped lead their team to an 8-4 record that clinched a playoff spot. Rose will host the No. 3 Laces on Sunday to begin the Unrivaled playoffs (h/t Bleacher Report).
