Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink will miss the remainder of the WNBA season after suffering a torn left ACL in Tuesday night’s game against the Connecticut Sun.  The former Stanford Cardinal was off to a great start in her WNBA career. In 15 games, Brink averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks. Many already considered Brink one of the best defensive players in the league and had her in the running for Defensive Player of the Year.

Brink will also have to miss the 2024 Olympics as she recovers.  On Wednesday, Brink broke her silence on the brutal injury news with a lengthy social media message.   “You never think it will happen to you. And despite all the hard work sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom but I know it will only make me stronger. I will not be derailed and I will continue to love this life – I’m not defined by basketball, but it is something that I love deeply and I will work everyday to get back to it. It’s not goodbye basketball it’s just a see you later. I’m always so thankful for your thoughts and prayers,” Brink said.

Brink’s absence will be a significant setback for the Sparks this year. We’re all hoping for a quick recovery so she can rejoin the team for the beginning of the next WNBA season.
