Angel Reese and Simone Biles continue to shine after being named on MET Gala committee

Several sports stars have been tapped to join the host committee for the 2025 MET Gala, including Angel Reese, Simone Biles, Jonathan Owens, and Sha’Carri Richardson. These athletes will play key roles in what is set to be one of the most exciting events on the fashion calendar.  Taking place on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the MET Gala will once again shine a spotlight on the intersection of culture, fashion, and celebrity.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has been named the honorary chair for this year’s gala, with Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton serving as a co-chair.  Other prominent figures in leadership positions include Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams. The host committee, made up entirely of Black leaders with the exception of longtime chairperson Anna Wintour, is reflective of this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” In addition to the athletes, the committee features high-profile names such as Usher, Regina King, and Audra McDonald.

The 2025 gala is set to be a classic

This year’s gala, celebrated for its extravagant and iconic red-carpet moments, will see Reese and Biles-known for their stylish off-field looks-adding their influence to the event.

Reese has become famous for her striking pregame outfits, while Biles has embraced a more glamorous, NFL WAG-inspired fashion identity in recent months. Both women, alongside other committee members, represent a growing trend of athletes blurring the lines between sports and fashion.

The MET Gala serves not only as a lavish gathering but also as a critical fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute. The event consistently brings in millions of dollars in donations, fueling the museum’s annual fashion exhibition. Beyond the philanthropic aspect, the evening offers attendees the kind of media exposure that is unmatched, making it one of the most exclusive and high-profile events in the world.

While the public is often captivated by the glamorous outfits and star-studded guest lists, much of what happens inside the gala remains behind closed doors. The event enforces a no-phones policy, making it one of the few times the celebrity world is kept under wraps. However, one thing is certain: the meal will be nothing short of extraordinary.

This year, it will be curated by renowned chef Kwame Onwuachi, known for his appearance on “Top Chef” and for his Afro-Caribbean restaurants, Tatiana in New York City and Dogon in Washington, D.C.  With the MET Gala just around the corner, excitement is building for what promises to be a historic celebration of Black style, culture, and creativity-highlighted by the presence of some of the world’s biggest sports stars.
