Angel Reese blasts WNBA referees after controversial game vs Lynx: “That s**t gotta get fixed”

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was clear after her team lost 80-75 to the Minnesota Lynx on July 6. She did not hold back.
In a hot talk after the game and on social media, she talked about how she and her team felt the game referees were not fair, most of all in the paint.
The moment that sparked it all
Reese stated in front of the press that in the game, she went up to the ref to ask why her team had only two free throws by the fourth quarter, while the Lynx had 17.
“I asked them, ‘Hey, we’ve only been to the free-throw line twice up until the fourth quarter,’ and she tells me, ‘It’s not my job,'” Reese said. “It’s frustrating because I know how hard we’ve been battling inside.”
This reply, or the lack of one, made Reese lose it. She later said:
“I don’t give a damn if I get fined… That st gotta get fixed. I’ve been nice, I’ve been humble. But I am tired of this s**t.”

Many no-calls that brought frustration
Reese’s upset was not just about one game. She has been loud all year about not getting foul calls even as one of the top tough players near the basket. In this game, she did not make any of her 16 shots, all in the paint, and got just two free throws.
A viral pic showed Minnesota’s Bridget Carleton holding Reese near her waist in a clear missed call. Reese posted the pic with just one word: “Diabolical.”

Even with these ref issues, Reese keeps doing well. Against the Lynx, she had:
.16 points
.17 rebounds
.6 assists

She now has at least 16 rebounds in five games in a row. This sets a WNBA record for the most rebounds in five games.
Overall frustration with the referees
Sky coach Tyler Marsh said Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, and Elizabeth Williams often face hits without getting calls.
“That’s kind of how we play as a team,” Marsh said. “For us to not get to the line more than that is kind of frustrating.”

Fans are also speaking up online, calling for the league to be fair. Many say the refs treat Reese different than other big names.
Reese speaking out is part of a growing look at unfair refs in the league. While postgame moans are usual in sports, the amount and sharpness of these complaints in the WNBA this year, specially from big names like Reese, show real worries about fairness and safety for players.
During the game you can hear Angel telling someone that the Ref said it’s not her job regarding the lack of foul calls for the Sky. This is proof for the ppl who will say she’s lying and this is egregious behavior from officials @WNBA @CathyEngelbert fix it Now pic.twitter.com/JcbS7sD688

She is not the only one player upset about how refs call games as many others think the same. They say some refs do not play fair, which makes players and fans mad and leads to much talk. Players like Caitlin Clark and other top WNBA stars feel this way too.
However, this could be good for a growing sport like the WNBA. Times like these start big talks that help the league and its players get better and change.
