The LSU community is reeling after the sudden and tragic death of former Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy, who passed away late Saturday night at the age of 24.  Lacy, who recently participated in LSU’s Pro Day and was preparing for the 2025 NFL Draft, was a standout talent and one of the program’s brightest prospects.

Though no official cause of death has been confirmed, multiple reports indicate that Lacy may have taken his own life.  He was scheduled to appear before a grand jury on Monday in connection with a December 2024 fatal hit-and-run case.  The incident had placed significant legal and emotional strain on the young athlete in recent months.

Lacy began his collegiate career at Louisiana before transferring to LSU in 2022, where he made a lasting impact on the field.  In his final season with the Tigers, he recorded 58 receptions, 866 yards, and nine touchdowns, cementing his status as a top NFL prospect prior to the December incident.  Among those expressing heartbreak and solidarity was former LSU basketball star Angel Reese.

Taking to social media, Reese urged her followers to prioritize mental health in the wake of the devastating news.  “Mental health is real. Check on your people! You never know what someone is going through!” she wrote, echoing the sentiments of a shaken LSU family.

The bond among LSU athletes runs deep, and Lacy’s death has struck an emotional chord across the Baton Rouge campus.  His talent on the field was matched by his connection with teammates and fellow athletes, many of whom have taken to social media to share memories and express their grief.

Former LSU receiver Odell Beckham Jr. also paid tribute, posting “Rest easy lil bro” along with a photo of the two in the LSU locker room, reminders of the close-knit culture the program fosters.  As LSU fans process this painful loss, Reese’s words serve as an important reminder: behind every jersey is a person, and mental health must remain a priority for athletes navigating intense pressure and personal battles.
