Angel Reese may be considered the “top challenger” to Caitlin Clark for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, but the Chicago Sky star couldn’t care less about the honor. After all, her focus is on something more important.

Reese said as much in a rather strong message to Clark, highlighting that her priority is to lead the Sky to win games. Chicago is fighting for a playoff spot, but the squad is in a rather precarious situation with an 11-18 record (at the time of writing)—just one game ahead of the ninth-seeded Atlanta Dream.  “I’m not focused on my individual accolades,” Reese shared, via Complex. “I’m focused on our team and what we need to do collectively to win.”

Angel Reese is averaging 13.5 points and a league-leading 12.9 rebounds per contest, so she definitely deserves to be in the Rookie of the Year conversation. Unfortunately, it hasn’t really led to a lot of wins.  Heading into Tuesday’s game against the Washington Mystics, the Sky have lost three straight outings. This is despite the fact that Reese had tallied a total of 62 rebounds during that span.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever continue to thrive after winning three of their last four games. Clark is averaging 18.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and a league-high 8.2 assists, cementing her status as the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.  It remains to be seen if Reese can surpass Clark in the WNBA Rookie of the Year race, but one thing is certain: she won’t be too bothered by whatever the result may be.
