Angel Reese was surprised to receive special gift after shattering a long-held WNBA record
There’s really no slowing down the Angel Reese locomotive right now. In her first season in pro basketball, Reese has proven that she was more than ready for the challenge of the WNBA after two seasons at Maryland and another two at LSU in the NCAA. Since joining the Chicago Sky as the seventh pick in this year’s draft, Reese has taken ownership of a heralded league record — the most consecutive double-doubles by one player.
Reese overtook basketball legend Candace Parker on Sunday by recording her 13th double-double in a row, despite a loss to the Seattle Storm. In recognition of this accomplishment, Reese revealed on social media that a key figure from within the Sky organization has given her a special present.
A gift from “Mr. Michael”
Reese on Monday took to Instagram Stories to show off a cake that she received from the Sky’s principal owner, Michael J. Alter. Calling him “Mr. Michael,” Reese was clearly honored to have received what looks like a pretty tasty cake — which was personalized to read “Angel WNBA record consecutive double doubles.”

Just 20 games into her WNBA career, Reese leads the league in offensive rebounds and total rebounds per game. Recent games have shown an improvement offensively, too — under the tutelage of respected head coach Teresa Weatherspoon, Reese set a new career high with 27 points in a win over Seattle on Friday, and she has shot better than 50 percent from the floor in four of her past seven games.
Reese was just named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on the strength of her recent displays — and the Sky, trying to enter the Olympic break in a playoff position, will hope she can keep the double-double streak rolling in the three games before the break. Reese, a first-time All-Star, will lead the Sky back into action on Wednesday against the Atlanta Dream before consecutive games against the championship-contending New York Liberty.
