The heartbreak in Frisco, Texas, is immeasurable as the family of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf grieves an unspeakable tragedy. In an emotional interview with Fox News’ Will Cain, Austin’s identical twin brother, Hunter Metcalf, recounted the horrifying moment he watched his brother die in his arms after a stabbing at a high school track meet.

Austin, a student-athlete and beloved member of the community, was fatally stabbed in the heart during a confrontation with another teenager, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, at Kuykendall Stadium on a rainy Wednesday morning.

A confrontation turned fatal in seconds
According to police reports, the altercation began during a weather delay at the meet, when Anthony sat under another team’s pop-up tent for shelter from the rain.

When asked by Austin Metcalf to move, Anthony reportedly refused and became combative. Witnesses said Anthony made a threatening comment – “Touch me and see what happens” – before reaching into his backpack and pulling out a knife.

Moments later, the confrontation escalated. Hunter Metcalf turned just in time to see his twin stumbling down the bleachers, clutching his chest.

“I whipped my head around, and then all of a sudden I see him running down the bleachers just grabbing his chest,” Hunter said through tears. “I put my hand on there, tried to make it [the bleeding] stop, and I grabbed his head and I looked in his eyes. I just saw his soul leave. And it took my soul, too.”

The stab wound pierced Austin’s heart, and despite Hunter’s efforts to stop the bleeding, the 17-year-old died in his brother’s arms.

Anthony fled the scene but was soon arrested by police at the stadium. According to the arrest warrant, he admitted to the stabbing but claimed he acted in self-defense. He was charged with first-degree murder.

Austin Metcalf was remembered by his family as a kind-hearted young man, a top student, and a highly recruited athlete with a bright future ahead. The senseless loss has left a void not only in his family, but in the hearts of classmates, teammates, and coaches who knew and admired him.

His mother, Meghan Metcalf, fought back tears as she tried to describe the unimaginable pain of losing her son.

“I don’t really have words,” she said softly. “If I could say anything to the nation, I would say to make sure that you just hug your babies tight, because you don’t know when the last time you’ll get to do it.”
