Brittany Mahomes provokes fresh fury with new hints about her views on Donald Trump
Brittany Mahomes has all-but-confirmed her support for Donald Trump in this year’s election by liking yet more posts on Instagram supporting the Republican Party. In her most transparent post yet, the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick – and close friend of Taylor Swift – sent Instagram into meltdown on Wednesday.
While promoting Chiefs merchandise for the new NFL season, she sparked more controversy when she liked a reply from a follower which said: ‘TRUMP-VANCE 2024’. She also liked another message of support after she incited fury for initially liking a post from Trump about the November election. ‘Glad to see you aren’t backing down,’ the comment that she liked said. ‘We are all entitled to our own opinions and shouldn’t be bullied into submission.’
But plenty of other comments on her post were from Democrat supporters, with many calling for a Kamala Harris win or predicting a ‘blue landslide’. Earlier this week Mahomes, a pregnant mother of two, re-posted a comment from preacher and author Shane Pruitt that appeared to be a response against backlash against her. ‘Contrary to the tone of the world today…’ the post begins. ‘You can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind.’
But Mahomes’ political view appears to put her at odds with Swift, who is dating Patrick’s Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce. The two couples spend time together over the weekend with Swift back in the United States after four months of touring in Europe. In an interview in 2019 with The Guardian, Swift said she supported Hilary Clinton over Trump in the 2016 election and accused Trump of treating the presidency like ‘an autocracy’.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick has never revealed which party he supports and told TIME magazine he does not plan to get involved in politics. ‘I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,’ he said. ‘I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.’
The Chiefs have been invited to the White House by President Biden the past two years to commemorate their Super Bowl victories in 2023 and 2024. Mahomes and his teammates had been invited to the White House by Trump following their Super Bowl LIV but did not attend due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Brittany Mahomes and Swift are anticipated to be at the Chiefs’ first game of the new NFL season next Thursday, against Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.
