Chicago Sky Coach Sends Blunt Message About Magic Johnson’s Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark Comparison

After Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s respective NCAA careers came to an end, it would have been hard to imagine that they could become even bigger rivals.  Yet, that’s exactly what has happened since they both entered the WNBA.  All three games between Clark’s Indiana Fever and Reese’s Chicago Sky have been supremely exciting. And now the two rookies are battling it out for pole position in the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Award race.

This iconic rivalry prompted NBA legend Magic Johnson to say in a recent interview that, “When I think about Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s impact on the game, they remind me a lot of Larry Bird and me.”  And Chicago Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon spoke about that statement on Wednesday.

When she was asked about Johnson’s comparison, Weatherspoon said, “Magic knows how much I love him. He knows how much I love him, and I respect what he says,” per TJ Sports Queens.  “And I stand on what he says,” Weatherspoon added.  It seems that the Sky’s first-year head coach shared Johnson’s sentiment about Clark and Reese’s rivalry being a major needle mover for the sport of women’s basketball.
