Chiefs’ Andy Reid Reveals Why Travis Kelce ‘Would Be a Heck of a Football Coach
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid believes that star tight end Travis Kelce has what it takes to become a great football coach after his playing career. Speaking on “The Herd With Colin Cowherd,” Reid praised Kelce’s football intelligence, leadership skills and ability to teach younger players. “Travis would be a heck of a football coach,” Reid said. “He’s able to get up there and explain things and teach these young guys what he sees and feels.”
Kelce, 35, has spent over a decade with the Chiefs, helping lead the team to multiple Super Bowl appearances. Reid emphasized that Kelce’s deep understanding of the game makes him an ideal candidate for coaching. “He would be a heck of a football coach. He’s able to get up there, explain things and teach these young guys what he sees and feels.”

“He’s got a good feel for the game,” Reid added.
“He knows how to read defenses and adjust quickly. That’s something you need in a coach.”
Reid and Kelce have worked together since 2013 when Kelce was drafted in the third round. Their long-standing relationship has allowed Reid to see firsthand how Kelce processes the game. “I’ve been around him for so long. I kind of know where he’s at, physically and mentally,” Reid said. “I know what he can do in games, so we try to utilize him.”
While Kelce has not publicly stated whether he’s interested in coaching, Reid’s endorsement suggests it could be a natural next step. However, for now, Kelce remains focused on his playing career as the Chiefs prepare for Super Bowl LIX game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
