Kansas City Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy finally took the big step. After a discreet romance that they finally made public on the night of the 2024 NFL Draft, the new Chiefs receiver and Tia Jones, the track and field star got engaged in a spectacular ceremony.   Worthy came to the NFL as the 28th overall pick in the 2024 Draft after the Chiefs made a last-minute trade to get the fastest receiver at the NFL Combine. The call turned Worthy’s life upside down, and he suddenly saw the media and fans put his life under the microscope.

Jones, for her part, is a successful sprinter with several medals in her cabinet, including those from the 2016 and 2018 Under 20 World Championships in the 100 meters. This year, she was left off the US team that will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, but at 23 years old, she still has time to grow and earn a place for Los Angeles 2028.   After the Chiefs turned Worthy’s life around, the couple decided to take the next step in their relationship with an emotional ceremony on the beach.

Xavier and Tia’s engagement

Since making their relationship public, Worthy and Jones have shared several couple photos on their social media profiles. However, on Tuesday, July 9, they took their followers by surprise by publishing a video on Instagram detailing how Xavier gave Tia a dazzling engagement ring.

In the recording, you can see a path of rose petals in the middle of a beach, which led to a large red heart. The couple arrived at the small stage, where Worthy dropped to one knee to present the ring to Jones.  The video then shows several photographs of the couple and ends with a black screen with the caption: “She said yes.” Xavier even created an Instagram profile, especially for the occasion, under the handle @xavierandtiaa.

Worthy still has a couple of weeks to enjoy his engagement to Jones. Chiefs training camp begins Sunday, July 21, with practices every day until the start of the preseason.  The defending champion’s first preseason game will be on August 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They will debut in the regular season on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
