Chris Jones is pleased with the chemistry he has had with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in training camps

The Kansas City Chiefs dramatically increased the chances of a historic three-peat when they awarded Chris Jones his contract extension. Now, the star defensive tackle was enthusiastic about the chemistry he had seen in the team during the offseason and in search of the feat.  Jones signed his new deal with the Chiefs in early March. Since then, the player has been present in all organized team activities (OTAs) and the mandatory training minicamp this past week.

With the entire team finally reunited, Jones could only express his satisfaction with his teammates’ state of mind and health. Likewise, he assured the chemistry is correct for the training camps and preseason.

The enthusiasm of Chris Jones

In an interview with 610 Sports KC’s Dusty Likins, Jones said, “Listen, man, we just finished OTA. Which I thought was pretty remarkable to have everyone there.”

He considered that the competition and chemistry that exists within the team are correct. “A lot of guys healthy, guys flying around, competing by also challenging. And then the chemistry we have on the team is huge during those moments,” he said.  Kansas City training camps will begin on July 23, and Jones could not help but be excited for the formal start of practices. “I feel really, really good going into the next five weeks and entering training camp,” said the player.

Travis Kelce and Jones’ contract

The negotiations between Jones and the Chiefs were not without surprises. There was a moment when negotiations stalled, causing tight end Travis Kelce to go into panic mode and send a desperate message to his teammate.

In an episode of the New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Kelce pleaded with the defensive end, “Chris, can you please come back? You’re really scaring me. I really want to get another Super Bowl ring with you, brother. Please, we need you. We need you bad.”  Kelce’s plea appears to have had an effect, as soon after, Jones signed a five-year, $160 million deal, with $95 million guaranteed. The contract made Jones the highest-paid defensive end in the NFL.
