It looks as though President Donald Trump is in some hot water with Pennsylvania Congressman and Philadelphia native Brendan Boyle over the fallout from February’s Super Bowl LIX.  The game saw the Philadelphia Eagles cruise past the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 40-22. As a result the Eagles were recently extended an offer to the White House to celebrate ether victory, which they accepted.

However, Trump has since revealed that he’s also invited members of the 2019 Chiefs, who were denied a visit to the White House visit due to COVID-19 in 2020.  This decision hasn’t gone down well with Boyle, who accused Trump of giving the Chiefs a “participation trophy”.  “Donald Trump is inviting the Super Bowl losing team, Kansas City Chiefs, to the White House. It’s pathetic – a full-blown White House participation trophy,” Boyle said in his statement.

“I thought Republicans didn’t believe in participation trophies. President Trump claims it’s because the Chiefs won the Super Bowl four years ago.  “But let’s be real: Trump backed the Chiefs this year, they lost badly to the Eagles, and now he’s throwing a fake celebration to cope. The Eagles crushed the Chiefs. No stunt or staged photo op will change that. Fly Eagles Fly.”

What do the Chiefs think of the invitation?

Trump recently stated he will welcome Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the rest of the 2019 Chiefs to the White House, and spoke about the matter to Outback’s Clay Travis on Air Force One on Saturday night.  “I look forward to having the Eagles. And one other thing, we’re going to have the Kansas City Chiefs after that because they missed their turn because of COVID,” he said.

While Trump may be eager to welcome the Chiefs to the White House, the team have yet to comment publicly on the matter. There is also the fact that no date has been attached to the invitation.  As for the Eagles, there were question marks over whether they would accept the invitation to the White House – or if one had even been extended.

However, press secretary Karoline Levitt cleared up the matter while speaking to the press.  “I know there was a lot of fake news about an invitation that wasn’t sent or was sent, we want to correct the record: we sent an invitation, they enthusiastically accepted, and you will see them here on April 28,” said Levitt.  Trump disinvited the Eagles from their White House visit back in 2018 after learning that several players planned on skipping the event.
