Eagles GM Howie Roseman perfectly describes a winner’s mentality in a nutshell

We all have different walks, different parts to play on this big ball that we call Earth. It’s always cool, however, when we find things that bring us together. Philadelphia Eagles fans come in all shapes, sizes, colors, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Even still, we can all get together and cheer with one another on every game day.

Connection is the word we’re looking for. It can be found in what we believe and what we study. We all read Shakespeare at one point. We all studied philosophy.

Who knew Howie Roseman had a little Socrates in him? His recent sit-down with the media wasn’t just a rundown of his thinking as the NFL trade deadline approached. He channeled his inner Sun Tzu with some Art of War-level theory and wisdom.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman perfectly describes a winner’s mindset.

Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich is a guide to personal development and self-improvement. The aforementioned The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise. The latter has been used to teach everything from how to be more efficient in battle to how to win at various endeavors, including business and sports.

If his current gig, for whatever reason, doesn’t work out, Eagles Vice President and General Manager Howie Roseman may need to write a book or two. While answering questions about gambling on three players at the NFL trade deadline, he offered the most comprehensive take on a winner’s mindset that we’ve heard in a while.

“When there’s opportunities to be aggressive for the right players, we’re not gonna sit on our hands. You don’t have great success without taking great risks. You can’t be afraid to fail. To get to the top, you gotta be willing to take chances that may look controversial at times.. If there’s ever a time we feel we can do something to make sure we have confetti on our heads, we’re gonna go aggressive in that direction.. I won’t live with regret with the way we operate around here.”

Let’s say he wasn’t talking about a trade deadline. Do you not see how expressing this level of thought could motivate anyone, regardless of their profession? Roseman wasn’t done. He took a deep breath, almost like taking a drag from a cigarette (but without the actual cigarette), and landed this plane like a pilot on a respected airline.

“It’s a mentality. We can always upgrade at every spot. We owe it to our fans, our players, and owner to always be looking.. It’s hard to find talented young guys. However, we obviously don’t give up picks just to give up picks.. We feel every move made sense.”

Duly noted, Mr. Roseman. Can you see it now? It’s no wonder that this guy has led his team to three Super Bowls and won two of them.

So, when you ask yourself why this guy is so successful and so good at what he does, think of things like this. Every day, regardless of the initial thoughts about this guy, we arrive at the same conclusion. This guy is going to find himself in Canton, Ohio, as a permanent guest when his days as a GM are behind him.
