Eagles Legend Delivers Strong Message to Jalen Hurts

Last year, while mired in a late-season collapse, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was rumored to have hurt his reputation with his coaches and teammates. Buzz surface last season that Hurts’ demeanor and attitude were unsettling to his teammates, and they weren’t exactly in support of his actions. Of course, there was no proof of this being the case.

Coming into this season, you would think that Hurts would want to rebuild this rumored “bad” reputation, but he is certainly not doing himself any favors behind the microphone.  Former Eagles great Hugh Douglas had some strong words for Hurts on a recent appearance on 94 WIP in Philadelphia.

“This is not good for the team,” Douglas said. “This is not good for Jalen Hurts as a quarterback. The one thing you don’t want to be in your young career is to be considered a malcontent. Not saying he’s there yet, but Jalen needs to make this relationship work for the betterment of us trying to get to the Super Bowl.”

Hurts has seemingly taken shots at coach Nick Sirianni multiple times. When asked about Sirianni hiring Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator.  “I mean, that’s a great question, I don’t know that I know the answer to it,” Hurts said. “I think he’s just been great in…umm…the messages he’s delivering to the team. He’s trying to be very intentional what he’s saying…yeah.”

Douglas insists that Hurts and Sirianni need to get on the same page, and laid the onus at Hurts’ feet.  “He needs to get in lockstep with it because at the end of the day,” Douglas said. “If Jalen is not in lockstep, guess who is not gonna be here if he’s out there beefing with the head coach? Him.”  This could be an incredibly volatile storyline to follow throughout the season. If the Eagles should struggle, and more rumors of Hurts’ attitude in the locker room surface, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles front office handles the situation.
