Howard Eskin: Eagles will ‘Carson Wentz’ Jalen Hurts if he does not have a good year
Just four years ago, a source within and around the Philadelphia Eagles organization said a quote that may be true today. “Just because Howard Eskin says it, doesn’t mean it’s true.” The long-time sideline reporter for the Eagles and host on the radio flagship station 94.1 WIP has spent the last few days discussing how disappointed the organization was in Jalen Hurts’ answer regarding Nick Sirianni, and what his role will be for the upcoming season.
In a normal practice week, Hurts’ trademark deflective answer would have been nothing to worry about but because it came at the end of a mandatory minicamp and the middle of learning a new playbook entirely, his remarks have caught fire by the usual media brigade in Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, Eskins went so far as to say Hurts’ comments about the offense being 95% new and actually being “25%” come as a surprise as well. The long-time radio host stated that 2024 is a make-or-break season for Hurts. Despite that obviousness, the Eagles have never been shy about sharing leaks with reporters. That doesn’t mean all the news heard was correct.
After all, when DeSean Jackson was released by the team after the 2013 season, reporters were leaked information that the Pro Bowl weapon had “gang ties” and it scared the organization. None of that was confirmed and Jackson has since stated how untrue the source was. The lesson? Just because Eskin heard from someone in the organization that they were disappointed in Hurts or that the Eagles franchise quarterback lied to reporters regarding the offensive structure doesn’t mean he’s right. It could very well be a point to add something to talk about while the team acts like business as usual around the facility. At the very least, radio hosts need to have something to talk about at this point in the offseason.
