Nicole Kidman, 57, gushes about ‘liberating’ S&M s*x scenes with Harris Dickinson, 28, in Babygirl
Nicole Kidman found shooting her raunchy scenes with Harris Dickinson for Babygirl ‘liberating’. The 57-year-old actress stars in the upcoming erotic movie opposite The Iron Claw star, 28. And now she has explained she felt completely safe performing the intimate sequences due to female director Halina Reijn ensuring neither actor was pushed out of their comfort zones, according to People.
During a recent Q+A session, Kidman said: ‘There’s a sort of a jump off the cliff thing where you go, okay, I’m just going to abandon everything and explore this with the people that I trust in a genre that is already set. ‘But hopefully we can explore new territory and especially with the female at the helm.’

She added, ‘You have your director at the helm going, “I will protect you. Nothing that’s going to be in the film will be anything that you are not comfortable with. You are going to be okay.”‘ The Eyes Wide Shut actress emphasized she also had an ‘enormous amount of trust’ in her young co-star for these scenes.
She added: ‘We would look at each other and go, “Okay.” While Dickinson admitted he was sometimes ‘really terrified’ to film intimate scenes with Kidman, the actor insisted Reijn never forced them to continue shooting if they became uncomfortable. He said: ‘Of course there were days where I would go in really terrified of a scene or I don’t know how I’m going to do this. ‘There was never a day that if the scene wasn’t working or if we weren’t comfortable or we weren’t getting something, we never felt that time was more important. ‘It was just like, “Okay, everyone go away for a second.”

Babygirl hits cinemas on Christmas Day in the US. The movie follows powerful CEO Romy (Kidman) who puts her career and life’s work in danger when she begins an intense affair with her young intern Samuel (Dickinson). The Big Little Lies star said she was attracted to the project because it was ‘an area [she’d] never been’ in her career. She explained: ‘I’ve always been on a quest as an actor, I’m always going, where have I not been? And what can I explore as a human being? And this was an area I’d never been.’
The Hollywood star, 57, has already received critical acclaim for her performance following the film’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where she was awarded Best Actress. The trailer shows the relationship unfolding, from them first locking eyes to their various rendezvous, showing how Nicole’s character becomes increasingly ‘liberated’ by the steamy liaisons.
The trailer begins with Romy first noticing Samuel on the street, after he calms down a dog who had begun running towards her. Viewers are then given a glimpse into Romy’s life balancing her career with family, from caring to her children to her relationship with her adoring husband Jacob (Antonio Banderas). ‘Don’t you have to be at work yet?’ he asks her as her husband plants a kiss on her cheek. ‘Being a CEO means being a collaborator and a nurturer,’ she muses. ‘Everyone’s just waiting for me to buckle under the pressure.’
Once at work, she meets the new class of interns – which just so happens to include the young man who helped her with the dog. The sexual tension is palpable right from the start, as she asks Samuel how he managed to calm the dog. During a one-on-one meeting, Samuel interviews Romy about her job and doesn’t hold back any punches. ‘I see myself as a – ‘ Romy begins before Samuel interrupts. ‘Power hungry personality?’ he asks.
Stunned, Romy replies: ‘You think that’s what I am?’ ‘I think you like to be told what to do,’ Samuel replies before apologiSing. ‘That was incredibly inappropriate,’ he says. ‘Your behavior is unacceptable,’ Romy says. ‘Is it?’ Samuel asks before they share their first kiss, kicking off their affair. Samuel says: ‘If we’re going to do this, we need to set some rules that you and I both agree on. ‘Starting with I tell you what to do and you do it.’
The trailer offers a glimpse at a slew of romps during the pair’s jaw-dropping affair, and during one rendezvous, Samuel instructs Romy to get down on her knees. ‘No! What!?’ she says, before he demands: ‘Get on your knees now,’ and chuckles: ‘Is that what you want?’ As the affair continues, Romy tells Samuel, ‘You’re very young. I don’t want to hurt you.’
But Samuel reminds her: ‘I think I have power over you. ‘Cause I can make one call and you lose everything. Does that turn you on when I say that?’ To her surprise, Samuel appears at her home and is already sitting at the dining table with her family when she enters the room. ‘Oh hey,’ he says. ‘You forgot your laptop at the office.’
It seems Romy has begun exuding a different energy since beginning the affair that her husband picks up on. ‘You seem liberated,’ Romy’s husband says. ‘I’ve never experienced anything like this,’ she whispers, ending the preview on a precarious note.
Babygirl is released on 25 December 2024 in the United States and 10 January 2025 in the United Kingdom.
