Patrick and Brittany Mahomes sampled the Friday night lights with a surprise appearance at a high school football game before the Chiefs play the 49ers this weekend.  Kansas City’s quarterback and his wife went along with head coach Andy Reid and defensive tackle Chris Jones in support of the sons of Matt Nagy and Dave Merritt.   Nagy, the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, had his son Tate playing as quarterback for Blue Valley West, while defensive backs coach Merritt has his son Dawson playing as a DB.

It was Tate who emerged victorious in a narrow 35-34 triumph, leading an 80-yard drive to win it in the closing stages with one of the best quarterbacks in the game watching on.   Patrick appeared to be on dad duty for the night, with his wife Brittany sharing a picture on her Instagram of him holding their son Bronze on his lap.

‘Friday Night Lights,’ Brittany captioned the image, in reference to the famous book and series about high school football.  Mahomes and his Chiefs team are heading to California on Saturday for their Super Bowl rematch against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.  The Chiefs have made a winning 5-0 start to the season and head into the Week 7 showdown after a bye week last weekend.

The 49ers, meanwhile, are without star running back Christian McCaffrey as he continues his recovery from tendonitis in his Achilles. ‘I think it’s as big of a regular-season game as you can play in,’ Mahomes said on Wednesday.  ‘They’re a great football team, and I always like going against the best, and that’s what we’re going against this week.

‘We understand that it’s going to take our best to win. You just have to have extreme focus.   ‘I think when you have two great football teams that meet up in the Super Bowl and meet up in all these big games, there’s going to be a history between that. We know how good this football team is and we have a ton of respect for them.’
