Patrick Mahomes calls out teammate over a pizza battle. During the Kansas City Chiefs’ annual team-bonding event at training camp, quarterback Patrick Mahomes playfully called out backup Ian Book for a memorable pizza battle. The former Notre Dame QB had to fend off the offensive linemen just to get his fair share of pizza while Travis Kelce and rest of team paid close atention.

At their first pizza outing, Book struggled to get more than one slice before the offensive line devoured the rest. Determined not to be left out, he made sure to go big at the next outing, downing nine slices. Mahomes joked that he even had to calm Book down after his pizza binge.

“The first time we went, the O-Line – he only got one piece because the O-Line ate all his pizza,” Mahomes explained.

“I think Ian Book had like, nine pieces of pizza yesterday, man… I had to calm him down… He went in on this last day,” Mahomes joked.

Training camp is a time for preparation, both physically and mentally. Held at Missouri Western State University, head coach Andy Reid emphasized the growth and development of the team as they gear up for the regular season. But beyond the field, off-campus pizza parties have become a fun tradition that helps build team chemistry.   These bonding moments, Mahomes said, are what build the camaraderie that makes the Chiefs’ culture so strong. It’s the little things, like a pizza night, that help the team form connections that last throughout the season.
