Patrick Mahomes involved in physical altercation with teammate that made Chiefs training camp go silent
Everyone at Kansas City Chiefs training camp held their breath when a play in their long drive session spiraled into an intense altercation, and the golden No. 15 jersey of franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes was right in the middle of the danger.

Video: Mahomes involved in altercation with teammate
Kansas City’s preseason has unsurprisingly revolved around the QB. Whether it’s the influx of new pass catchers around him, his signature circus throws, or new coaches brought in to get the most out of him, Mahomes is always the story.
Of course, red flags (and perhaps some yellow ones) go up when the story surrounding Mahomes is about a serious physical bust up. Even more so when the other main player involved was hulking linebacker Drue Tranquill.
Drue Tranquill loses his cool
During the long drive drill, an Andy Reid preseason tradition that Jason and Travis Kelce share nightmares about, Tranquill lost his cool at the end of one play.
In the video, you can see a helmet go flying, belonging to Tranquill. It’s unclear what set him off, but the only person able to calm him down is Mahomes. The $500 million man took a risk by getting involved, but as some fans noted, it may have been the quickest way to get Tranquill to calm down. If he didn’t, the Chiefs’ season could end before it started.
“My favorite thing is when Chiefs players process that it’s Mahomes holding them back and have to dial back their struggling by a factor of 100 because their career is on the line,” remarked a member of Chiefs Kingdom on X, formerly Twitter.
It was another display of Mahomes’ remarkable leadership to help his teammate chill out and move onto the next play. However, it may not be one that the fans and coaches would want him to repeat, especially before the season begins.
