There is no doubt that one of the biggest weaknesses for the Kansas City Chiefs in the last Super Bowl was protecting Patrick Mahomes. He was hit multiple times, sacked six times, and the result was a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, 40-22.  This offseason, the Chiefs are well aware of their urgent need to secure solid protection for their superstar quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

However, a surprising move came when the Kansas City Chiefs traded one of their best linemen, Joe Thuney, to the Chicago Bears. This decision sparked controversy, especially after Mahomes took such a beating in the Super Bowl.  Nevertheless, the Chiefs have started to rebuild their offensive line. They extended the contract of veteran Trey Smith and brought in Jaylon Moore from the San Francisco 49ers. In the Draft, they could continue reinforcing their offensive line.

Josh Simmons from Ohio State on the Chiefs’ Radar

Team insiders have emphasized the importance of protecting Patrick Mahomes if the Chiefs want to contend for another Super Bowl. CBS Sports analyst Chris Trapasso projects that Kansas City will select talented Ohio State lineman Josh Simmons.

“Simmons probably would have been drafted much higher if he had stayed healthy in 2024. He is an ideal long-term project with enormous potential at a key position for Kansas City,” said Trapasso.  The Ohio State lineman was considered one of the top prospects, but an injury kept him sidelined for much of last season. His draft stock dropped due to the injury, but this could be good news for the Chiefs, who hold the second-to-last pick in the first round.

The Dream Pick: Armand Membou from the Missouri Tigers

In recent days, Membou has become the favorite among betting odds to be the first lineman selected in the Draft. The Missouri Tigers standout is seen as the ultimate solution to protecting Mahomes, but it is almost impossible for him to remain available beyond the first 15 picks.
