Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was in high spirits on Wednesday night as he passionately supported the Kansas City Royals during their American League Division Series (ALDS) clash against the New York Yankees at Kauffman Stadium.

The excitement in the stadium reached a peak during the bottom of the fifth inning when Royals outfielder Kyle Isbel hit a double, driving in a crucial run. Following that, Michael Massey stepped up to the plate and hit a game-tying triple, leveling the score at 2-2.

Seated in a suite with his wife, Brittany Mahomes, the star quarterback couldn’t contain his excitement. He leaped around the box in jubilation, even engaging in playful banter with his longtime friend Gehrig Dieter, a former Kansas City Chiefs receiver and die-hard Yankees fan.  It was a nice change of pace for Mahomes, who was in NFL action as recently as Monday evening.

While Mahomes is predominantly recognized for his achievements with the Chiefs, where he plays just across the street at Arrowhead Stadium, he also holds a 1 percent stake in the Royals, which he purchased in 2020.  This postseason marks the Royals’ first appearance since their World Series victory in 2015, a momentous occasion for both the team and Mahomes, who was just a sophomore at Texas Tech at the time.

Regardless of Wednesday’s outcome, the Royals are set to host the Yankees again on Thursday night for Game 4.  With the Chiefs enjoying a bye week following a perfect 5-0 start to the 2024 season, Mahomes is expected to return to Kauffman Stadium to continue supporting his hometown team.  The atmosphere remains charged with excitement as fans rally behind the Royals and Mahomes, hoping for a memorable postseason run.
