IOWA State star Benjamin Brahmer was rushed to hospital after collapsing during his team’s game on Saturday.  The tight end was in action as the Cyclones took on the Arizona State Sun Devils at Jack Trice Stadium.

During the fourth quarter, Brahmer took a hard tackle by Arizona State’s Keith Abney ll as he attempted to catch a pass.  The college junior initially gingerly rose to his feet, seemingly trying to walk off the blow.

He then terrifyingly collapsed to the ground, requiring immediate medical attention.  Brahmer’s teammates could be seen taking a knee as the horrifying scene played out.

The college football star was eventually carted off the field.  The game was being broadcast live on TNT Sports.

Shortly after the incident, TNT announcers revealed that Brahmer was conscious and being taken to hospital for further evaluation.

Following more treatment, Brahmer was thankfully able to be discharged.  An Iowa State statement read, “Ben was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center after suffering an injury in the fourth quarter of today’s Iowa State-Arizona State football game.  “He was evaluated and treated and has been discharged from the hospihospitaI.

Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht said after the game, “We’re just happy that guy’s all right, he’s conscious.  “We’ll miss that guy. He’ll be back better than ever.”

Coach Matt Campbell added, “It was tough to watch, and Ben is as tough as they come.”  The incident occurred with 8:50 left in the game.  Prior to his injury, Brahmer had three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Iowa State went on to lose the contest 24-19 to fall to 5-4 on the season.  Even before Brahmer’s injury, the Cyclones were already without starting QB Sam Leavitt, as well as Jordyn Tyson, Prince Dorbah and Xavion Alford.

“The recurring theme is the inability to have great execution down there and I think that’s what’s showing up,” Campbell added.  “We do a great job… we get the ball to the two-yard line, and then you get the ball to the one, and then you’ve got to pound it in.  “I think those are execution errors, and so I think the reality of that is just execution.”
