SAD REID: Andy Reid gives worrying update on Patrick Mahomes over Kansas City Chiefs star’s brutal injury in loss to Chargers
ANDY Reid shared a troubling update on Patrick Mahomes over the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s horror injury in the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mahomes injured his right knee late in the fourth quarter of the Week 15 defeat to the Chargers. The Chiefs’ season officially ended on Sunday as last year’s AFC champions are stunningly 6-8 for the campaign.
And the team received even worse news. Mahomes suffered what appeared to be a significant knee injury in the fourth quarter.
During his postgame press conference, the veteran head coach Reid revealed that Mahomes will have an MRI either Sunday night or Monday.
But the 67-year-old added that the injury “didn’t look good.” Mahomes was tackled from behind by Chargers’ Da’Shawn Hand. The three-time Super Bowl champion was seen instantly reaching for his left knee, and he stayed down on the sideline as Kansas City’s medical staff treated him.
Mahomes went to the blue medical tent for further medical treatment and needed help getting to the locker room.

He was replaced by veteran backup Gardner Minshew, who threw an interception to Derwin James with just 14 seconds remaining in the contest.
The interception sealed a 16-13 loss. The Chiefs were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
But the team will now have to worry about Mahomes and if the injury requires surgery, which could impact his availability for the start of the 2026 season. Minshew will likely start the rest of the season if Mahomes misses time.
