Shohei Ohtani Turns 30: Seiko Dials Back Time With a 3-Day Mega Event Plus Two Special Watches To Showcase Shotime’s Greatest Moments
Japan and the baseball world are abuzz as two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani celebrates his 30th birthday today, July 5, 2024. But this isn’t your average birthday bash. Ohtani’s longtime sponsor, Seiko, is pulling out all the stops with a three-day extravaganza dubbed “SHO-TIME STADIUM Presented by Seiko Prospex,” designed to showcase the athlete’s remarkable journey. What exactly does this entail?
Seiko is transforming the Tokyo Midtown Hibiya into a shrine to the Unicorn’s illustrious career. Visitors can expect a walk-through timeline of his challenges and triumphs with Seiko, an exhibit of his most memorable quotes, and even a 3D sound theater where fans can relive his on-field heroics. But that’s not all!
Ever wondered what it’s like to be Shohei “Two-Way” Ohtani? The SHO-TIME Challenge offers a chance for fans to experience some of Ohtani’s record-breaking feats firsthand. And for those looking to capture a memory, a photo spot allows you to pose with a jumbo Ohtani bobblehead while sporting his signature Seiko gear. And Seiko isn’t just stopping there.

They are launching not one but two limited-edition timepieces to commemorate Ohtani’s milestone birthday. First up is the Seiko Astron Nexter Shohei Ohtani 2024 Limited Edition, inspired by the Los Angeles Dodgers team colors. With only 1,700 units of the SBXC165 (priced at ¥440,000=approx $2,740) and 500 units of the SBXC167 (priced at ¥462,000=approx $2,875) available, these watches are sure to become collector’s items. However, there’s more to these timepieces than just their exclusivity.
The SBXC165 boasts a striking blue ceramic bezel and bracelet, while the SBXC167 features a bold black case and a blue dial reminiscent of the Dodgers’ logo. Both models sport Ohtani’s latest signature on the case back accompanied by a special box also bearing his autograph. And these aren’t the only Ohtani-themed watches Seiko has up its sleeve!
Just a year ago, Seiko released the Seiko Prospex Diver Scuba Automatic 200M 1965 62MAS Modern Interpretation Shohei Ohtani 2023 Limited Edition. Limited to 1,700 pieces, this watch pays homage to Ohtani’s Japanese heritage with its gray dial, red accents, and the number 17 engraved on the clasp and crown. But Seiko’s celebration of their homegrown superstar doesn’t end with watches.
The clock is ticking, so don’t miss out on the Shohei Ohtani festivities!
Fans can leave messages of support for Ohtani at the event venue, Seiko Global Brand Core Shops, or the Seiko Watch official website, and those who participate will even have a chance to win exclusive merchandise. However, time is of the essence, as this too is a limited-period event.

The SHO-TIME STADIUM event runs from July 5th to July 7th, while the message campaign and the bobblehead giveaway extend until July 31st. The Astron Nexter limited edition watches will be available for pre-order at the event and online, with general reservations opening on July 25th. Did you know this isn’t the first time Seiko has honored Ohtani?
Ohtani has been a Seiko ambassador since 2018, and the brand has consistently celebrated his achievements with special-edition watches and campaigns. Earlier this year, Ohtani even sported a Grand Seiko GMT watch to his historic $700 million contract signing with the Dodgers, as a subtle nod to his Japanese roots. And the accolades keep coming.
In March 2024, Seiko appointed Ohtani as the brand ambassador for King Seiko, a line known for its precision, refined design, and dignified presence. The partnership seems fitting, as both Ohtani and King Seiko embody a commitment to excellence and a dedication to their craft.
As the baseball world watches Shohei Ohtani continues to make history, Seiko’s elaborate birthday celebration serves as a testament to the athlete’s culture-bending impact and enduring legacy. And with limited-edition watches, interactive exhibits, and opportunities for fan engagement, it’s clear that Seiko is going all out to honor the man they love to call “Shotime.”
