Simone Biles and the Chicago Bears’ Jonathan Owens have expanded their family a little further by adopting a new dog to join their home, alongside their other trio of pets, as they pick up a Doberman.  The family already own three bulldogs so this is a big change in pace for the Olympian and her NFL husband, with Dobermans standing up to 28 inches at the shoulder and being a naturally athletic breed demanding more attention.   “Congratulations to @jowens & @simonebiles. They will be getting their Regal Empire Doberman later this year,” posted @regalempiredobermans on March 30th, before it was reposted by Owens.

The family currently own Lilo and Rambo, who were brought into the household by Biles and play a very important role in helping her manage her mental health as a competitive elite athlete.  “Being an elite athlete puts a lot of stress and pressure on you,” Biles said to Nulo previously. “And I got Lilo and Rambo for emotional support and to be a companion through all of my ups and downs.”

Whilst Owens’ is named Zeus and is based on the King of Gods in Greek mythology and joined Lilo and Rambo sometime around 2020 when the pair met on a dating app and began their relationship, marrying in 2023.   “Most energetic English Bulldog you’ve ever met. I love food, chewing on anything I can find, and taking long naps,” Owens describes Zeus as, on the dog’s own Instagram account.

What are Dobermans like?

Dobermans, known for their black and tanned fur similar to a Rottweiler’s, are expected to live for between 10-13 years and are known for their intelligence, obedient and energetic natures.  Their loyalty makes them good guard dogs, capable of adeptly defending their families and homes.  This defensive nature saw them used in World War II, with Dobermans making up 75% of dogs deployed compared to 25% for German Shepherds.
