Simone Biles’ proud husband Jonathan Owens supports her at Olympic gymnastics final as her team wins gold

Simone Biles’s NFL husband Jonathan Owens looked every bit the proud spouse as he supported her in the stands during the Olympic gymnastics team final – as she took home her fifth gold medal.  After missing the qualifying round, football star Jonathan, 29, was spotted in the audience at the Bercy Arena during the finals alongside Simone’s parents Nellie and Ronald.

He donned a white T-shirt that had the word ‘Biles’ emblazoned across it in huge, red writing.  Simone, 27, famously withdrew from the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo after she suffered from something called the ‘twisties’ and fumbled on the vault, but three years later, she proudly competed alongside Team USA at the 2024 Games in Paris.  The Olympic gold medalist led the squad to victory during the qualifying round over the weekend, and again at the team final on Tuesday – and a slew of famous faces jetted to the French city to cheer her, and the rest of her teammates, on.

Simone also had a slew of stars as she made her heroic Olympic return at the gymnastic team finals on Tuesday

Along with Jonathan, other sporting stars at the event were Michael Phelps and Jason Kelce, who was joined by his wife, Kylie.  Also at the event was tennis legend Serena Williams, who previously praised the gymnast to Time magazine.  Back in 2021, the pro gushed of Simone, ‘What she embodies truly reflects the endless potential of Black women. I wish I had her to look up to when I was younger and trying to realize my dreams.’

Other A-listers supporting Simone at the finals included acclaimed director Spike Lee, actress Nicole Kidman, and Black Swan alum Natalie Portman.  In addition, Microsoft billionaire founder Bill Gates was there, and he appeared on edge as he watched the events play out.  Simone wowed on all three events – floor, beam, and vault – during the final, and helped secure the team’s epic gold medal win.  Team USA finished with an impressive winning score of 171.296.  Days prior, she topped the qualifier with the highest scores on floor and vault, despite suffering from a calf injury.

During the qualifier, another array of stars were in attendance, including movie star Tom Cruise, actress Jessica Chastain, Vogue editor Anna Wintour, Elvis director Baz Luhrmann, popstar Lady Gaga, Barbie creator Greta Gerwig, singer and actress Ariana Grande and her upcoming Wicked costar Cynthia Erivo, musician Nick Jonas, and A-list couple John Legend and Chrissy Teigen.

Rapper Snoop Dogg was also there, and he went viral for his hilarious reaction to Simone’s performance.  He seemed to be in awe at her skills, and a picture that showed him lifting up his sunglasses to reveal a wide-eyed look took over the web afterwards.  Simone’s husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan, missed the qualifier due to training camp, but took a break from his NFL duties to attend the final.

He took to Instagram early on Tuesday morning to confirm he was on his way, sharing a snap of a plane window, which he captioned, ‘Coming for you baby.’  Simone and Jonathan started dating in 2020 after he DMed her on Instagram; they tied the knot in April 2023 in Houston before heading to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, for a lavish celebration.

Before the finals kicked off on Tuesday, Simone took a moment to clap back at nasty trolls who branded her hair a ‘hot mess’ during the qualifier.  After the event, X, formerly Twitter, was flooded with unkind posts about the way that her tresses were styled.  One person said the Olympic gold medalist looked like she ‘just rolled out of bed,’ while another tweeted that her hairstyle was ‘sloppy’ – but Simone had a fierce message for her haters.

In a post shared to her Instagram on Tuesday morning, the sports star warned, ‘Don’t come for me about my hair.’  Simone explained that while she had her hair ‘done’ before the event, she had to take a 45-minute bus ride in the extreme heat with no air-conditioning.

‘It was done but bus has no AC and it’s like 9,000 degrees,’ continued the gymnast, as she shared a video of herself sitting on the bus and holding a portable fan up to her face. ‘Oh and it’s a 45-minute ride.’  In a second post, she added, ‘Gonna hold your hand when I say this. Next time you wanna comment on a black girl’s hair, just don’t.’
