Sky Coach Addresses Angel Reese’s Handling of ‘Tough’ WNBA Fan Criticism
Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese deals with a lot. Because she is such a popular player, a household name, and in her own words, “unapologetically herself”, Reese subjects herself to a lot of hate from basketball fans. Especially the fans of Caitlin Clark; many of whom seem to believe that praising one 22-year-old woman means they must put down another. But Reese has handled this vitriol admirably not only on the court, but also off of it.
And Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon spoke out about how Reese has handled fan criticism prior to Thursday’s game against the New York Liberty. “She is an incredible person,” Weatherspoon said of Reese, per Chicago State of Mind Sports. “A giving person [who] wants to share her time with people. One who has really gotten a lot of criticism on social media.
“It has been tough,” Weatherspoon continued. “But at 22 years old, I think she is handling herself very well.” Nobody can ever condemn Weatherspoon for not having the backs of her players. Which is why the Sky seem to have such a familial, tight-knit culture being built that will surely lead to future success.
