Over the last week, the buzz surrounding Chicago Sky star Angel Reese potentially being suspended has been loud. She is just one technical away currently from facing a mandatory one-game suspension.

According to WNBA league rules, when a player reaches eight technical fouls, they are automatically suspended for one game. Currently, Reese has been issued seven technical fouls.

Reese is known to be a very passionate player. She has been caught up in that passion on a few occasions this season that have resulted in technicals.  Despite the potential suspension being a real threat, Sky head coach Tyler Marsh spoke out with honesty about the situation.

While she currently has seven technicals assessed to her, Marsh honestly revealed that Chicago is working to have some of those rescinded.

“We’ve done our work on our side to try to get a couple of those rescinded in the moment and beyond, and that’s up to the league’s discretion,” Marsh said. “I think, across the board, it’s part of the entertainment of the game. It’s hard to control the passion in the heat of the moment.”

Whether or not the Sky will be able to get the WNBA to rescind some of Reese’s technical fouls remains to be seen. At the very least, it’s worth a shot.

Should that effort be unsuccessful, Reese will need to walk on tiptoes. Being given a one-game suspension isn’t the end of the world, but the WNBA rules would then see additional one-game suspensions for every two technical fouls received after reaching eight.

Recently, Chicago has been forced to play without Reese due to injury. She is questionable to play in Sunday’s matchup against the Indiana Fever. Caitlin Clark is also out for the game as she recovers from a groin injury.

In her second WNBA season, Reese has continued playing at a high level. She has played in 22 games, averaging 13.8 points per game to go along with 12.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals, while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor.

Expect to hear more about the Sky’s efforts to get the WNBA to rescind technical fouls from Reese in the near future. She’ll need to watch her step in the meantime to avoid the mandatory suspension.
